The Rio is the only independent cinema left in Greater London. Opened in 1915 as the Kingsland Empire the interior of the building was designed to resemble a grand theatre with elaborate staircases, lavish balcony fronts, chandeliers and high columns. Although some refurbishment has occurred over the past century this cinema still retains character and plenty of ‘wow’ factor – the foyer is a spectacular site alone.
Make a trip to this cinema and keep the Rio flame burning - I'm sure VUE have got their eyes on it already....

Some people would consider themselves lucky to have a cinema that shows something besides commercial cheesy blockbusters in an area like Dalston.
